This month’s city in focus, is Rotterdam, from one of our 38 Spotted by Locals blogs. Here you’ll find a small selection of great tips from Rotterdam Locals.
.) Het Broodwinkeltje – A regular bakery, selling meats, cheeses, fresh juices and sandwiches too. According to Local Alexander Geijzendorffer, this bakery isn’t extremely special, but still very tasty and it’s “reasonably priced and the owner is downright fanatic about his goods.”
.) Lof der Zoetheid – is worth a visit for their tasting menu only. If that doesn’t convince you, then maybe their famous cheese cake will. One last tip from Locals Anne-Marie and Renia; “It’s usually very busy so be patient and wait to be seated as the food will make up for the waiting ;)”.
.) Yendor – has the largest collection of English and Dutch comic statues along with a wide variety of unique and not-so-unique comic novels. Every once in a while we like to pretend we’re still kids, and Local Leontien van Daalen recommends this place for your inner child.
.) Hemel op aarde – it is difficult to go wrong with tapas. This tapas bar, ‘Heaven on Earth’, lives up to its name. Spotter Marieke Koets confirms this and shares her favorite dish with you. “It’s the favorite restaurant of one of my best friends and not without a reason. Their tapas are delicious and there is lots to choose from. My favorite are the dates filled with an almond and rolled in bacon.”
.) Locus Publicus – is your typical student bar. And those are popular! An added plus are the male bartenders with their extensive knowledge of beers, “The locus is a pub made to really enjoy your beer. It’s not too big and the pub rules tell you to switch off your phone.”, says Spotter Marieke Koets.
